What's The Point?
Community development depends heavily on small businesses. The U.S. Small Business Administration reports that small businesses create nearly 90% of the net new jobs in the United States.

How Do I Benefit?
Often, small firms may lack the management, technical and financial ability to survive on their own. Most small businesses fail within the first five years of operation because of undercapitalization (not enough money) and/or lack of proper management. The Winchester Entrepreneurial Center, Inc. provides an environment where public and private resources combine to support the needs of a number of small businesses. This support is critical during the early stages of development and will improve a company's opportunity for success.

What's The Result?
The Winchester Entrepreneurial Center's main goal is to produce successful businesses that will leave the program as financially viable and freestanding enterprises. After a period of approximately one to three years, client businesses "graduate" and leave the program to create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, commercialize critical new technologies and strengthen local and national economies.

Who Can Become a Winchester Entrepreneurial Center Tenant/Client?
The Winchester Entrepreneurial Center business program accepts start-up firms and growing businesses. Tenants need not belong to a single industrial group. In accordance with available resources, the Winchester Entrepreneurial Center will focus on the growth and development of service-based enterprises. Some broad-based examples of these type enterprises include:
  • a business that provides professional services
  • a business that provides support services to another, larger business or industry
  • a business that provides employment labor resources for a larger business or industry
  • a business that provides a specific service related to an industry (such as a courier service)
However, because of the creativity of entrepreneurs and the tremendous amount of ideas, there is certainly an expectation that other business types may also become clients. These may include production and advanced technology services as well as light assembly and manufacturing, as the resources of the facility allow. Examples of these business types may include:
  • a business that provides parts, raw materials or supplies for a larger manufacturer
  • a business that provides products or services that increase a larger business's efficiency or productivity
  • a business that explores advanced technology practices and solutions
  • a software development company
