When an announcement for hiring of officers or dispatchers is posted on the City of Winchester website, the Winchester Police Department's Facebook page and/or local media outlets (newspaper, TV, radio), the applicant should apply per directions of the agency and/or the City of Winchester.

The Winchester Police Department requires that all applicants:

  • Be at least 21 years of age (dispatchers be at least 18)
  • Possess US citizenship
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Pass a background check and be fingerprinted
  • Have no felonies on their record
  • Pass a written exam
  • Pass an oral interview
  • Pass a polygraph exam
  • Pass a medical exam
  • Pass a physical fitness test (police officer applicants only)
  • Pass drug screen
  • Complete DOCJT Basic Academy (police and dispatch applicants have their own academy)
